Berry Cauli Avocado Smoothie
After doing a lot of research recently, I'm realizing how much sugar I actually consume, despite the fact that I thought I was already trying to avoid it! Fruits are great and have a lot of nutritional value, but consuming a ton of them is still a lot of sugar for your body to work with.
A perfect example of a typical sugar-filled treat is smoothies. If you throw in an entire banana, plus mixed fruit...not to mention any added sweeteners people put in (honey, etc.)...that equates to a lot of sugar.
Instead of using banana as my base this time, I decided to take the suggestions of others and used frozen cauliflower (I steamed them the night before then froze them), and frozen avocado. Not only did it SUBSTANTIALLY decrease the amount of sugar, but im getting a lot of nutrients and healthy fats too.
The crazy part is, usually im STARVING 2 hours after consuming a smoothie. After this one? Well it's now been 3+ hours and i still feel satisfied. Whoa. It was also soo insanely creamy! Say helllooooo to my new smoothie.
Chocolate cherry protein smoothie:
- 1 cup frozen cauliflower
- 1/2 frozen avocado
- 1 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut almond milk
- 1 scoop paleo chocolate protein
- 1 scoop Sports Research collagen peptides
- 6 frozen cherries
- 1 tbs ground coffee
Topped it with some chia seeds + Paleo Nola maple pancake grain-free granola (only lightly sweetened with organic honey and organic maple syrup 😍)
Recipe makes two smoothies (or one BIG one, depending on how hungry you are 😋)
